Mangalore : Today, Saturday, April 2, MCC Officials raided the crowded marketing areas of the city in central market shops selling plastic bags and seized huge plastic materials from sellers, while MCC commissioner Dr. K.N. Vijay Prakash continued to warn against usage of plastic bags below 40 microns in public.
Dr. Prakash headed the team of raiders and spoke to citizens, dissuading them of plastic bags used for shopping. Environment officer Manjunath and assistant Health Officer Krishnappa Gowda, health inspectors Basavaraj and Babu Mallan, joined him, along with revenue officer Meghan, in a difficult task.
The MCC commissioner explained that used plastic bags in streets and roadsides could block rainwater drains. Plastics reduces land fertility and prisons packed fruits, vegetables and other food items.

All plastic bags are banned in India under Environment Protection Act of 1989, as amended in 2011. Eatables producers and Vendors are prevented from using such dangerous bags. The supreme court has banned selling Pan Masala and Tobacco products in plastic sachets (or packets) from March 1, 201.
The Banned plastics should not be used in city limits, under rules of 199 for recycled plastics. The thickness of plastics should be over 40 microns in use, Dr. Prakash insited. Violators of these rules face hefty penalties and disciplinary action, MCC warned.
There were 10 nodal officers, with 20 others assisting them to remove banned plastic goods, in city areas like Kankanady, Town Hall, Flower Market, Urva stores, central Market and other such places.
