Mangaluru : Mangaluru City Corporation chairperson (MCC), standing committee on taxation, finance and appeals, Kiran Kumar presented the budget for the year 2021-22.
Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar approved the budget proposal for the year 2021-22.
A Rs 317.18 crore surplus budget with an anticipated revenue of Rs 609.92 crores and an anticipated expenditure of Rs 576.28 crores was presented for the year 2021-22 by the Mangaluru City Corporation on January 28, Thursday.
The budget has not proposed any new schemes while has laid more emphasis on increasing tax revenues. It has been proposed to frame new rules and prepare a bye-law with regard to putting a check on illegal hoardings.
It has further been proposed to make all the offices of MCC paperless on the lines of the main office with the objective of early disposal of files. Measures would also be taken to provide all services online.
It has been targeted to collect Rs 70 crore by means of property tax during the year 2021-22. The MCC also proposes to earn a revenue of Rs 4.50 crore by way of trade licence fee and a revenue of Rs 3.74 crore by way of rent from the MCC owned commercial complexes and markets after revising the rent amount. The budget has earmarked Rs 1.50 core to maintain street lights.
The MCC is also expecting a grant of Rs 184 crore from the Centre and state governments under various schemes.
Kiran Kumar said the budget lays more emphasis on environment and water conservation, health and education, maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene and completion of various ongoing projects.
