Mangaluru: The Mangalore city corporation mayor along with the officials of MCC conducted raids on Tuesday at two beauty parlours, one spa and an ayurvedic therapy centre that offer massage services.
The surprise raid as wittnessed the girls were found offering body massage to men at two centres in the city. While the men managed to flee when the mayor and officials entered the premises, the girls were allowed to leave the premises. Meanwhile, a few centres managed to evade raids by locking their premises even before the team arrived.
The mayor also conducted raid on a skill game centre, where several games including dart, were played. The Mayor ordered closure of all centres, which were functioning without a valid license from the city corporation.
Speaking to media Mayor Kavitha Sanil said,”I have received many complaints from public regarding massage parlours and skill game centres functioning in the city illegally. I have spoken to city police commissioner T R Suresh and sought his time to hold a joint meeting to take action against illegal massage centres and skill game centres. Those massage parlours and skill game centres that I raided today have not obtained trade license from MCC. Girls from Mangaluru and surrounding places are being hired by these centres and making them massage men. Let them engage men for massaging men and women for women. They also need to fix CCTV cameras inside their centres. I will not allow Mangaluru to become another Mumbai,” Kavitha Sanil said and added that very soon a meeting with police will be held to close down all such illegal centres in the city.
The mayor had conducted a raid and locked a skill game centre that was functioning illegally at a commercial complex near Ambedkar Circle on July 6. Nagaveni, chairperson of the standing committee for public health, education and social justice, also accompanied the mayor during the raid.
A skill game centre Owner at Falnir Sujitha Rai said, “We have the supreme court order to run the skill game centre. We do not need any trade license for this. Without any prior notice raiding the centre is not fair. We will continue our business and we will not shut down the centre for any reasons.”
I am sending Rs 2 lakh to the concerned police station every month, the police cannot do anything to me. For any reason, I will not shut down my business, she said.
The Mangalore south police who arrived the spot and took the owner with them to the police station. The MCC officials later sealed the centre.
