Mangalore : The Mayor of Delta along with a province of British Columbia, visited Mangalore City Corporation on Oct 12, Tuesday in order to strengthen the newly established relationship between Delta and Mangalore.
MCC and the Corporation of Delta signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate economic, social and cultural cooperation and collaboration between Mangalore and Delta. Mayor of Delta Louis E. Jackson arrived with two delegates from the Corporation of Delta George V Harvey and British Columbia official Manjith Taila to finalize the MoU.
Commissioner of MCC K. N. Vijaya Prakash briefed the cultural heritage, tradition and development of the city. He said that the Mangalore has received the 8th place in the clean city in the world. There are large number of developing project like Mangala Cornish, Ropeway Bridge and other projects coming up in the city.
Mayor Rajani Dugganna presided over the function.
The team from Canada headed by Mayor Jackson held an interaction with the members of the MCC.
Speaking at the interaction, Mayor of Delta Louis E. Jackson said that she listens to the problem of people of Delta personally and try to solve the problem. The people will also send emails and text messages to her complain the problem.
Speaking on the Malaria control programme, she said that there are very less cases of virus attack found in Delta. She also said that there are very few homeless people nearly 1000 and they are given shelter through social networking.
Pointing on the building by laws and parking policy, she said that every commercial building must provide proper number of parking lot. The traffic management is basically handled by the police department and the engineer department in City Corporation.
The people in Delta directly elect the Mayor of the City Corporation and I have been elected as the Mayor for 1 year, she said.
In order to check the disaster in the city, the corporation will have the emergency plan and discuss at the meeting held every month and find changes required of the plan, she informed.
The Delta has good garbage dumping facility, where there is one bin to dump the news papers and other to dump left over foods. Later one truck will be sent to a place once in a week and recycle the wastes and convert into electricity or steam with out any smoke, she added.
The Canadian delegation was welcomed in the traditional Indian way. The MCC also published an 8-page brochure on Mangalore heritage sites and development and was handed over to the delegation.
Later, the Canadian guests were felicitated with a peta, shawl, memento representing Yakshagana and fruits. In return Mayor of Delta also gave Canadian memento to Mayor Rajani Dugganna.
Manohar Prasad, Bureau Chief of Udayavani compered the programme. Shantha R, chairperson of standing committee proposed vote of thanks.
Later, the Mayor of Delta and other guests spoke to the media persons at the press meet held in Mayors Chamber.
She also said that, in Delta water bill is collected from the people according to the water used. The City of Mangalore was selected for the agreement based on various aspects. The selection of the city was right one to build a good relation and work together for the development.
