Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation has finally decided to start segregation of waste at source from January 16.
The city corporation will soon prepare a schedule for waste seggregation for all the 60 wards. Antony Waste Handling Cell Private Limited (AWHCPL), the agency that is carrying out waste management in the city, has been given necessary direction and a final meeting will be held in this regard on January 15.
In fact, MCC is keen on introducing segregation of waste at source since the city corporation is also a competitor in the Swachha Survekshan survey launched by the Union ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo said the role of the citizens is major in seggregation of waste at source. “We have decided to commence collection of segregated waste in the entire city from January 16. We request people to cooperate by seggregating dry and wet waste,” he added.
