Mangalore: The new system is applicable only for those who build independent houses within 10 cents area’
In a measure that would bring much relief to those who plan to build independent houses in single site measuring less than 10 cents of land, the power of granting single site approval has been shifted from the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC).
Briefing mediapersons on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the State government has passed a gazette notification on January 29, on handing over the power of granting single site approval from MUDA to the MCC. Accordingly, the MCC will take up the process of issuing approval to single sites for one dwelling unit, in an area less than 10 cents (405 square metre).
The new system will make way for a single window system, wherein poor and middle class who wish to build house in single site, can obtain single site as well as building approval from the MCC.
Earlier, people who sought for single site approval had to approach MUDA and approach MCC for receiving building approval. This was not only a long procedure, but also was causing an inconvenience to people.
“The new system will avoid people running from pillar to post. The process of granting approval for a single site will complete within 12 days and the procedures for allotting a building licence will be completed within 30 days,” the DC said.
The new system is applicable only for those who build independent houses within 10 cents area. Applicants seeking for single site approval in more than 10 cents area will have to approach the MUDA. Single site applicants can approach the MCC from February 14 onwards.
To a query on imposing solid waste management cess in the Corporation limits, the DC said that he will convene a meeting of the local MLAs on February 22 to take a final call on cess.
