Mangalore : Mayor Mahabala Marla said that Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has sent a proposal to the State government to increase the income limit of civic workers belonging to Group-D (Poura Karmikas) to Rs 3 lakh for eligibility of government benefits.
He was speaking to the civic workers on ‘Civic workers day’ organized by MCC at Town Hall on September 23, Tuesay.
Mayor also said that the increment in the income of civic workers allow more number of Group-D employees to utilize government schemes like educational scholarships to their children and employment facilities under 22.75 percent welfare scheme fund.
He also said that there are around 220 civic workers employed to carry out their duties in 13 wards whereas, 400 posts are lying vacant. The civic workers efforts to keep the city clean must be appreciated, he added.
MCC councilor Premanand Shetty, urged Mayor to give importance to the issue and fill the vacant posts.
Speaking on the occasion, Former MLA Shashidhar Hegde said that Chief Minister Siddaramaih has agreed to make temporary posts into permanent.
Assistant commissioner Pramila M.K, said that MCC will always render support to the civic workers since very one can understand their importance in keeping the city clean, she said.
