Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation has decided to resort to water rationing and have announced the schedule as no sufficient water in Thumbe and AMR dams to last till the monsoon begins,
Mayor Kavita Sanil, addressing a press meet in the city said that measures were being taken to see that water in the dams would be enough for drinking water requirements till the end of May or till the monsoon began.
Sources say that water level in Thumbe Dam stood at 4.15 meters while AMR Dam is 6.25 meters.
Accordingly, from March 20, water within Mangaluru City Corporation limits would be stopped on Mondays from 6 am till Tuesdays 6 pm and from Thursdays 6 pm to Fridays 6 am. Water supply would be normal on days and timings other than that specified. Thus MCC will not supply water for two days every week.
Mayor Kavita Sanil has requested the public to cooperate with the changes. She said that as soon as monsoon arrived in the district, the order would be withdrawn.
