Mangalore : Rakesh Sarin, Mangaing Director of Wartsila India said that the power plant at Mangalore Chemical & Fertilizers Ltd (MCF) in Karnataka has completed 25 years of successful and continuous operation.
Speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Jan 14, Saturday, he said that the power plant has eight Wartsila 18V32 engines with a total generation capacity of 48MW, of these two engines have completed about 100,000 hours. This is an important milestone for both MCF and Wartsila India as it signifies a long- standing successful partnership between the two companies.
He also said that, MCF has been an important customer for Wartsila and five of theior engines have crossed 140,000 to 150,000 hours of operations as on dat and still going strong a true testament of the successful partnership. Being the sole manufacturer of Chemical fertilizers in Karnataka, MCF is a strong market leader and we are proud to b associated with them, he informed.
The officials of Wartsila are committed to give the customers value for their money and superior quality service which have now become synonymous with Wartsila and are confident to continue the association with MCF to yield great achievements.
Explaining on the DG Power plant, he said that Wartsila Power Plant was commissioned in 1985 to overcome the frequent interruptions in power supply, which were causing equipment  failure and wastage of energy during shut-down and start-up of the plant within the factory. The Wartslia power plant has ensured smooth operation of fertilizer plant through the steady supply of quality captive power. This power plant meets the total power for the entire factory.
Wartsila’s gas- based power plants are well known for their flexible operations, high efficiency and low emission levels. Our high energy efficient systems ensure that energy consumption demands are met adequately, he added.
MCF Managing Director Deepak Anand, said that we have a strong energy management policy and we remain committed to continuous improvements in our operations. We are very happy that our power plant has completed 25 years of operations producing so far 5.3 billion units of electricity and will further achieve greater milestones through long-standing partnership with Wartsila. With the availability of interrupted captive power, our fertilizer plants have achieved best standards in terms of on-stream factor and energy consumption. Timely advice and supply of the required products are the prerequisites of our farmer’s service under the Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) concept. Under this concept pursued in a unique and effective way, MCF will provide complete solution to farmers in his crop cultivation, he stated.
