Manipal: To keep abreast with the changing pace of technology and with a goal to strengthen academic activities, Department of Printing and Media Engineering, MIT, Manipal, in association with Manipal Technologies Ltd. (MTL), organised “Media Carnival 2018” (6th National Level Intercollegiate Print and Electronic Media Technical Festival) on 12th and 13th February 2018.
The objective of the program is to promote printing technology, to provide a platform to showcase student talent and to build confidence in the mind of budding Printing Technologists that they may perform well in their profession. About 100 students from different parts of our country participated in this great event.
The inauguration took place at Sir M V Seminar Hall on 12th February 2018. Mr. Vilas Nayak, Chairman & MD, Hanuman Group of Concerns and Spandana TV Channel, was our Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he stressed the importance of co-curricular activities in the career progression of students. He also told how students can be job givers with a simple camera and computer, rather than job seekers.
He gave a clear picture of the developments happening in the media industry and the scope for innovation in this area. Mr Satishchandra PMS Product Manager, MTL, was the guest of honor. He mentioned about the progress of 3D from 3D max to latest MAYA software.
Dr. Somashekar Bhat, Associate Director (Development), MIT, in his presidential remark mentioned the advancement in Print and Media technology, from manual hand composing to the highly sophisticated Organ or Cell printing.
He also mentioned about the role of printing industry in the VLSI. Prof. (Dr.) Amrutharaj H. Krishnan welcomed the gathering, Nagaraj Kamath, Convener, detailed the program. Ramnath Shenoy, Co-convener proposed the Vote of Thanks. Vaibhavi Mishra and Yash Dhote students of the 3rd year were the Masters of Ceremony. Participation from Udupi District Printers Association made the meeting richer.
Mr. Vilas Nayak, also delivered the keynote address on Media Entrepreneurship. During the Plenary session, Dr. S. Balaji, Associate Professor, MIT briefed on 3D Printing of Biomolecules. Technical competitions for the day included Best Print Manager, Print Quiz, After the break, Video editing, Picturesque, Beat mix, and Intricate folding techniques.
In the evening all the students were taken to the Commercial print Division of MTL for a floor visit. There were some entertainment program for the students which was followed by a grand gala dinner.
Day 2 began with plenary talk by Dr. Shivanand Wagle, GM (R&D), MTL, on “Modern trends in Printing Technology”. Mr. Umesh N Nayak, Consultant QA, explained “100 ways to simplify our life”. An interactive session “Talk to Us” with Mr. Umesh and Mr. J B Prakash, HOD, GIPT, Bangalore, was well participated by all the students, and was followed by remaining technical competitions like Paper presentation, Built box, Movie Quiz and Logo design.
Col. Prakash Chandra, DGS, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, was the Chief Guest during the Valedictory function. Mr. Chandrakanth Desai, GM (Projects), Manipal Digital Systems was the Guest of honor. Prof. (Dr.) Narayana Shenoy, Associate Director (Student Welfare) MIT, presided over the function.
44 individual prizes were given to the winners. Each and every participation college had a prize to take home. Dr. T M A Pai Memorial Overall Champion Shield was won by PVG’s College of Engineering and Technology, Pune in Engineering domain and Prof. P S Shivaram Memorial Overall Champion Shield was won by Salesian Institute of Graphic Arts (SIGA), Chennai and Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College (AGPC) Sivakashi, in Diploma domain. Hearty congratulations to all the winners!
Media Carnival 2018, was well supported by All India Federation of Master Printers and the Indian Print Industry. Department thank all the stakeholders for their plentiful support. The entire expenditure of all the participating students including up and down transport was taken care by Printing and Media Engineering department, MIT Manipal.
