Mangalore : The members of the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association (DKDWJA), submitted a memorandum to the Mangalore Police Commissioner urging to withdraw FIRs charged against two journalists in relate to recent attack on youths at Morning Mist Home Stay.
Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that he did not point out media as solely responsible for the attack and not even arrested any of the reporter, but the probe on media’s role in attack is on.
He also revealed that during the arrest, one of them had informed about giving information to the media, but the police are not considering without investigating the matter.
Speaking about the duty of media, he said that media have greater concern towards the society like police department, but they could have informed to the police. When one of the reporters said that the numbers of media representatives were less compared to the attackers, they could not do anything, but Commissioner said that they could at least dial 100 to inform to the police.
Replying for the commissioner’s statements on call, reporters said that police would hardly respond to the media people’s call. Hence he assured them that further he will direct the department to receive the call made by the media people or call them back, if cannot receive at the moment.
Reporter also said that video footage has helped the police to identify the culprits, but the commissioner said that they could also prevent it by informing in advance.
DKDWJA, under the leadership of its President P. B. Harish Rai submitted memorandum to commissioner urging to withdraw FIR’s against the journalist’s and allow them to do their duty.
