Mangalore: 12 lady painters of the city are in Gandhi Park at Mannagudde, painting their artistry skills. Some completed paintings are also on view. The completed paintings also join the display at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday. Art-lovers are buying them, as they are completed.
Laxmi Saladi is an expert in Tanjore paintings which are made by drawing a line and adding texture using chalk powder and Arabic gum. She places gold foils over a layout of ply-board and loin cloth.
Renuka (a teacher at Prasad Art School) attracted attention while painting which she has done for 12 years, to complete 200 exquisity paintings.
‘Aasare’ (support) was appreciated, for its content of 2 creepers wrapping around window grills! Renuka said it was pure imagination.
If the canvas is washed, then painting sticks well on it, the painters revealed while doing so, as people watched them.
‘Varna Vanita’ (painting of women), an event by female artists of the canvas of coastal Painters courtyard was inaugurated on Saturday, by Vanita Rai, by applying a ‘Tilak’ (red spot) on a painting done by Reshma Shetty!.
K.Rajalakshmi addressed the gathering on the need of curators for explaining the pictures. 12 artistes are embellishing the event by on the spot paintings.
