Mangalore : There is a need to change the mindset of men and they should stop viewing a woman as a commodity, said Kalpana Sharma, well known columnist and journalist.

She was speaking at a  UGC  sponsored  national conference on ‘Education and Women Empowerment’ jointly organized by St Ann’s College of Education and state department of women and child development, held at St Ann’s College here on  September 12, Thursday, she expressed her concern over the rising cases of crime against women and said there was a need to change the patriarchal mindset.

Ammu Joseph, an independent journalist and writer said many aspects of news coverage need to change, if society is to be realistically  portrayed. Dr SR Leonilla Clair Menezes, Principal of St Ann’s College of Education, Dr Sr M Shalini AC, superior of St Ann’s Convent, Dr Shashikala A, co-coordinator  and others were present.
