Kushalnagar: J. Somanna(40) who was working as Head constable for 4 years in Kushalnagar police station, has committed suicide on Monday at home, by hanging on account of mental illness. He was serving the department since 16 years. Yet, in the last few years he was unsteady in mind.

He was treated in NIMHANS hospital in Bangalore for nerve diseases and showed promise of recovery. He behaved oddly on duty, occasionally. In recent period, he did not attend office, due to recurring mental trouble.

His wife Nagaratna had gone to fetch her brother, to take him to NIMHANS again, to her native place on Sunday. Sensing that he was alone at home, the HC committed suicide by hanging.

Nagaratna on return on Monday found him dead.

Kushalnagar police have registered a case.

He(the deceased) leaves his wife and two children. His colleagues offered condolences.
