Mangalore: The former state secretary of CPI (M) from coastal region, MH Krishnappa (88) passed away in SCS Hospital in Mangalore on Tuesday.
MHK was in the British Army but left it to take part actively in the Independence Movement. He fought for farmers in the communist movement and guided the ‘Samara Dheera’ agitation involving himself full time. He organised farmers under CPI (M) on the coastal region to fight against oppressive landlords. He took a leading part in bringing Land Reforms Act to coastal Karnataka. He was state Secretary of CPI (M) for 3 years in the 1970 decade. He worked when B.V Kakkillaya (CPI) and P. Ramachandra Rao (CPI-M) were also in the communist movement.
The DK Dt. Committee of CPI (M), DYFI and SSF district leaders have condoled MHK’s death.
