Mangalore : Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized a gold bar weighed 1000 grams and the two gold pellets weighing 115 grams from the cleaning staff at Mangalore International Airport on Tuesday, July 15.
The total weight came to 1230 grams and value of the gold is about Rs 31.64 lakhs. Two persons were arrested in this case.
The cleaning staff identified as Ganesh(22), son of Venkappa from Adma Gudde House, Karambar in Bajpe.
The officials said, when the cleaning staff was trying to recover the gold from drainage hole of the toilet he was caught red handed by the officials.
The staff recovered the gold kept by the passenger and wanted to hand over to one Naushad of BC Road, who was waiting outside the parking area of the airport.
The passenger arrived in the Air India Express Flight No IX-384 on July 15 had dumped the gold at toilet.
The DRI officials caught Naushad and produced before the Court.
It is learnt that the gold was for certain smugglers operating between Dubai and Kozikode in Kerala State.
