Mangaluru : Minister for Tourism, Large and Medium Scale Industries R V Deshpande unveiled the logo of Indian Open of Surfing here on Sunday.
Indian Open of Surfing event will be organised by the Department of Tourism and to be held on Sasihithlu beach in Mangaluru on May 27, 28 and 29. The event is the first inaugural surfing festival happening in the state.
The main objectives of the surfing festival is to promote beach tourism and adventure sports. The National Surfing, Stand Up Paddling and Body Boarding championships are expected to attract surfers from all over India.
The event will be held in various categories such as Groms (Under 16), Junior Boys (17-22), Seniors Men (22-28), Masters Men (28 and above) and Women Category. There will be an Open Men’s category for international surfers.
The total cash prize will be around Rs 6 lakh for all the winning participants in all categories.
Coastal food festival and entertainment programmes in the evenings will be the other attractions. The event is recognised by International Surfing Association and Surfing Federation of India and organised by Mantra Surf Club and Kanara Surfing and Water Sports Promotion Council.
Judges and officials from Indonesia, Australia and U S A will be supervising the technical aspects of officiating the event.
