Mangalore : State Governments ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ Scheme, a milk powder distribution programme to schools was inaugurated at Gandhinagar Government School, Mannagudda on August 1, Thursday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, State Forest Minister and District in charge minister Ramanath Rai said that a glass of milk consumption daily is necessary or the growth of every people.
He also said that consuming milk has reduced the mother and infant mortality rate. Government will support healthy scheme which is required for the growth of children.
Raviraj Hegde, president of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (DKMUL), in his presidential address said that the government has done a good job by increasing Rs 4 to the dairy farmers. Earlier DK used to get milk from Maharastra, but the previous government and present government has introduced many schemes for the dairy farmers which increased the production of Milk.
DK alone produces 55 lakhs litre of milk, out of which 35 lakhs litre are given in form of milk, 5 lakhs litre in form of sweets and 15 lakhs litre as milk powders, he said.
