New Delhi : The Union Home Ministry has ordered an inquiry into the alleged lapses of Border Security Force (BSF) in guarding the international border from where three Pakistani terrorists entered India leading to recent attacks in Jammu.
Subhash Joshi, the Director General of the paramilitary force, has been asked to conduct the inquiry through and Inspector General rank officer to find out how the terrorists could cross the border.
Ten people were killed by the terrorists on September 26 in twin attacks on a police station in Hiranagar in Kathua district and an Army camp in Samba district.
Preliminary investigations have found that there was a lapse in following the Standard Operating Procedures, as the guards posted in Hiranagar police station could not fire a single bullet in retaliation.
This had happened despite the fact that the same police station was attacked by some terrorists few years ago. The probe has also found that the police control room in Jammu was informed about the incident at police station immediately. However, the message was not properly passed to police pickets posted along the Pathankot-Jammu National Highway along which the terrorists travelled after attacking police station.
The Army control room was also informed by police about the first attack but the message does not seem to have reached each Army unit located in Jammu region, which resulted in the attack on the Army camp in Samba.
