Mangalore: Special schemes for the welfare of minorities will be taken up in Bidar and Gulbarga districts, said K Rahman Khan, Union Minister for Minority Affairs.
Speaking to reporters at DCC office in Mangalore on January 16, the minister said the two districts from Karnataka are among the 90 districts across the nation identified as minority concentrated districts.
The minister said special programmes for welfare of minorities like opening of schools, hospitals and better sanitation facilities will be introduced in the districts.
He said a sum of Rs 40 crore \has been earmarked for the two districts of Karnataka under the scheme.
Rahman Khan also outlined the various programmes chalked out by his Ministry for the welfare of minorities and added scholarships and coaching were provided for students and skill development centres are also being opened.
He also criticized the opposition by BJP leaders to the setting up of Tipu Sultan University.
