Mangaluru: Barely a couple of weeks after miscreants fired at an employee of a textile showroom in the city demanding hafta (extortion money), two bike-borne men opened fire at the residence of a businessman in Mulki on Saturday night.
Around 9pm on Saturday, two bike-borne men arrived at the residence of businessman M Nagaraj located beside the highway. One of them entered the compound and opened fire.
The main door of the house and the bonnet of a car have been damaged in the firing. Nagaraj and his family members were in the house during the incident. By the time, the locals arrived at the spot hearing the firing, the miscreant had fled.
Frightened with the incident, Nagaraj has registered a complaint with the local police.
In his complaint, Nagraj said that he had received threat calls about 2 years ago. However he did not approach the police. Gradually, the calls had stopped. An officer told TOI that the shootout took place for hafta.
Mangaluru city police commissioner T R Suresh, DCP (crime and traffic) Uma Prashanth, ACPs Rajendra, Uday Nayak and Mulki police inspector Anantha Padmanabaha visited the spot.
On December 8 night, two bike-borne men had opened fire on an employee of M Sanjeeva Shetty Silks and Sarees, located at Car Street. The police had confirmed that the firing was made in connection with hafta. Police said it was the handiwork of underworld fugitive Kali Yogesh, a henchman of notorious criminal Ravi Poojary.
