Udupi: Town MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat claimed here that Udupi had enough water to supply all over the households within TC limits.
He was telling the anxious newsmen, following a crisis in which Mangalore was placed early this month, of rationing drinking water once in 2 days to many areas.
Bhat clarified that the Town Municipal council had chalked out long-ranging plans with special commitment to basic needs like water, power and roads. He should be a model to MCC Corporators(BJP) here who do not work but sulk in defeat, even when they grabbed deputy Mayor and 4 SC posts.
Bhat added that 96% taxes were collected in Udupi by end of March 2012. There was 24 hours water supply in April.
Here in MCC the citizens have 10 days water stretched to 20 days., to the shame of BJP4 years rule.
Udupi will have waters upto May 25 to supply everyday. Tanker facility was not called for as reservoirs are full, Bhat explained.
The separation of Udupi(dt) from DK Dt., has worked wonders, he implied. 64 construction works costing Rs 3 crores from the special allotments, were earmarked fro completing these works, MLA Bhat sated.
A sum of Rs 4 crores is invested to renovate the Town Hall. The Municipal Council received Rs 30 crores under CM’s Small and Medium Development Projects scheme, under which new plans are drawn up.
Malpe-Padukere bridge building and Kalsanka-Gundibailu road widening process are on right track, costing Rs7.5 crores and Rs 6 crores respectively.
Udupi fish market is under renovation. Jodukatte-Brahmagiri stretch is widened at a cost of Rs 2 crores.
CM DVS Gowda will inaugurate the renovated Udupi Town Hall on May 20, the MLA informed, reeling out many more statistics and works in progress.
Bhat also stated that each Panchayat was responsible to provide water to its citizens, coming under its jurisdiction.
MCC has lessons to learn in Mangalore from Udupi TMC so far looked after by Dr. V.S. Acharya and now by MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat.
