Mangalore : Mangalore MLA U T Khader criticized state government for its faulty sand mining policy for sudden hike in sand rate.

Speaking at the press meet held at hotel Woodlands on Sep 17, Saturday, he demanded a separate sand mining policy for Dakshina Kannada district.

He also said that a specific policy for specific region will fulfill the needs local people as far as sand mining is concerned in the state.

Although the government has give the permission for the revised draft of the sand mining policy for the three coastal districts like Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts, this has not come into effect, he lamented.

Due to the lack of region specific policy, people of coastal districts, have been forced to pay several times more than actual value of the sand during traditional and manual system.
