Mangaluru: Belthangady and Sullia Taluk Panchayats in Dakshina Kannada have surpassed the manpower generation target set under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) programmes during 2017-18, according to M.R. Ravi, Chief Executive Officer, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat.
The two taluk panchayats have also achieved cent per cent achievement under MGNREGA programmes in the last financial year, he told reporters here on Tuesday. The achievement is for the first time for any taluk panchayat in the district since the launch of MGNREGA programmes in the district, he said.
The Executive Officers of the two taluk panchayats and the Assistant Director, MGNREGA, will be honoured at a function in the zilla panchayat office on April 7, he said.
Mr. Ravi said that 85 gram panchayats in the district have achieved cent per cent target set under MGNREGA programmes during 2017-18. The panchayat development officers (PDOs) of those panchayats would be issued with commendable certificates for their achievement. The CEO said that the district as a whole utilised ₹61.74 crore against the target of ₹72.45 crore under the MGNREGA programmes for the last financial year.
There was 13% growth both in man power generation, from 74% to 87%, and financial achievement, 71% to 85%, during 2017-18 when compared to 2016-17.
Mr. Ravi said that Dakshina Kannada has distributed job cards to all eligible 31,731 families of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
