Mangalore: The Coast Guard, Civil Police, Indian Navy and other security ranks took part in the operation Sagar Kavach on Wednesday launched by state police forces to make at large aware of imminent terrorist attacks with full preparations to face them.
The police checked shopping people’s bags and belongings as if they contained hidden bombs or RDX explosives. Vehicles and drivers were detained and were checked thoroughly as if they could be detained if anything harmful was found, on national highways, on railways and at airports, besides any sensitive places.
Over 200 policemen were put on these searches to stop vehicles and check them sharply, though public remained innocent or unsuspecting.
2 DCPs, SPs, 18 PSIs, 60 HCs, 8 Inspectors and 65 constables were employed in this swift activity, according to CPC Seemanth Kumar Singh.
Obviously, rumors get spread and mobiles got busy on ‘some terrorist attack happening somewhere after Osama Bin Laden was destroyed in Abottabad with his followers in a hideout 2 days back. When reporters ran to police stations as to find out what is was all about, they realized it was a mock drill only to heighten preparedness in public if they were attacked by an armed gang.
