Mangalore : Prof. Kasturi L Chopra, former director, Indian Institute of Technology, Khargpur said that the Universities must provide higher education to cultivate human capital as an agent for a knowledge society.
Speaking at the 34th Foundation Day lecture on the topic ‘Nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship in academic institutions’ at Mangala auditorium in Mangalore University on September 10, he said that as an integral part of higher education institutions there is necessary to have an close interaction with entrepreneurs, communities and industry.
He urged the students to learn to create knowledge through human resources, innovations through research and development, creation of wealth through Intellectual Property Rights and entrepreneurship, nurturing eco-friendly, holistic for the betterment of society. The present universities must be a place to learn and not to teach.
Delivering the presidential address, Prof K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University said that the University will honour alumni who have achieved in various fields and organize ‘Open-house’ conferences to share their knowledge.
Registrar (Evaluation) Prof B Narayana welcomed the guests and gathering. Finance Officer Prof P Pakkeerappa proposed a vote of thanks. Prof A M Khan compered the programme.
Later Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Byrappa felicitated Prof. Chopra on the occasion. The event concluded with the Yakshagana prasanga ‘Veeramani Kalaga’ presented by Mangalore University women employees.
