Mangalore : M Veerappa Moily, Honourable Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Chief Minister of Karnataka Jagadeesh Shettar laid the foundation stone for the Government Lady Goschen Hospital Building on Mar 18, Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, M Veerappa Moily, said that the hospital has the history of 162 years which is claimed as the only hospital for women and children welfare in the state. More than 5,000 to 6,000 women give birth to their children here.
He said that MRPL has given Rs 2.27 crore for the construction of one block of the hospital and hence the block will be named after MRPL ONGC block.
The central government is also ready to give the well equipped Ambulance to the hospital and state health minister must work for it, he said. The government has also earmarked Rs 25,000 crore for the women’s welfare schemes so that there must be zero death rates in women and child during delivery.
CM Shettar said that in the coming days, Mangalore and Udupi will be the model for other district in regard to health development.
Speaking about the Vajapayee Arogya Sri Scheme, he said that the scheme was started in Hyderabad- Karnataka for the treatment of poor women in all levels.
He also said that the state government has implemented Soubhagya Sanjeevini scheme for drinking water.
Sudhir Vasudev, chairman MRPL and Chairman and Managing Director ONGC unveiled the plaque of Vajapayee Arogya Sri Scheme, Mini Vidhan Soudha scheme, Wenlock block sceme, Lady Goschen building scheme.
He said that today it is the day of celebration of legacy and motherhood. ONGC is ceebrating its 10th anniversary after take over by MRPL and renovate the Lady Goschen and help the poor.
Today women are dying from various diseases; hence they must be treated to save their lives. MRPL will take step to shape better life for women and children, he added.
District in charge minister C T Ravi, Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, MLA Krishna J Palemar, MLA U T Khader, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and others were present.
