Bangalore : Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily today declined to comment on the demand for a probe into allegations against former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan’s son-in-law P V Sreenijin possessing disproportionate assets.
Referring to the demand for a probe into the charges by former CJI Justice V R Krishna Iyer, Dr Moily said the matter had to be verified.
”Without knowing how far Justice Balakrishnanan was involved, whether he has misused his office as CJI, I don’t want to comment on the demand.” Justice Iyer had yesterday demanded a high-level probe into the issue.
He suggested that a three-judge panel should go into the allegations. Mr Sreenijin had allegedly amassed wealth to the tune of several crores in the past four years.
Mr Sreenijin, who had declared assets worth only Rs 25,000 in the affidavit filed in the 2006 Assembly Polls contesting on a Congress ticket from Njarackal, now allegedly owned several prime properties, including a riverside plot of 2.5 acre at Annamanada in Thrissur.
He and his wife Sony have allegedly acquired a flat in the city, a plum office space near the High Court and 25 cents of land at Elamakkara in Kochi where the construction of a bungalow is in progress, according to reports.
