Mangalore: N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker inaugurated a month long Malaria and Dengue Eradication Campaign. This is a joint initiative of the district administration, Mangalore City Corporation and District Health and Family Welfare Department.
In his address, Bhat emphasized the need for effective Malaria control measures and also to identify places which give scope for breeding of mosquitoes.
Mayor Gulzar Banu who also spoke, assured every co-operation on behalf of the MCC for the Malaria eradication drive.
Dr Arun Kumar, District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer, informed about the programmes to be organized during the month including surveillance if there were any fever cases, blood smear collection etc. He also said more importance would be attached to construction sites and added the campaign would be assisted by 30 junior health assistants from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, 30 from MCC, 30 BSW and MSW students.
He also said 10 lab technicians would be made available in public health laboratories to examine blood smears collected during the campaign.
Amitha Kala, Deputy Mayor, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar, Jayaram Poojari, Senior Malaria Inspector, Krishna J Palemar, MLA and others were present on the occasion.
