Moodbidri: The final notification as been published in the state’s gazette as per the government announcement in 2017 budget about the creation of a new taluk. With this publication, Moodbidiri has become taluk with effect from January 11, 2018.

Between the period 1910-12, Moodbidri was given the taluk status. It has once again won this status back after demands and many efforts lasting several decades.

Moodbidri formed part of Karkala Taluk and was included into Dakshina Kannada district on the creation of Udupi district in 1997. Jagadish Shettar government had announced the creation of Moodbidri talku on Februaru 8th, 2013 but the Congress government which succeeded the BJP, ignored this proposal. Now on the emergence of assembly elections, this new taluk has been officially formed.
