Karkala: The senior BJP minister incharge of Udupi, Dr.V.S.Acharya, speaking as chief guest at Bhuvanendra College in town, informed people on Friday that the Govt, proposes to start as many as 34 post-graduate colleges in Karnataka, which has 40 such centres already. A Janapada(folk culture) University also is on the anvil, he added.
A corner stone was laid for a new building of Manjunath Pai Memorial PG Centre, besides one for an extended section of Bhuvanendra Hostel. The inaugural ceremony of a Sharada Sadana was held on Thursday, Aug.11 in a newly completed building.
Dr.Acharya pointed to the flocks of outside students attending local colleges because of high quality of education here. Karnataka is the only state in India to provide such improved educational facilities at affordable costs. The state has implemented suggestions made by a Knowledge Commission.
A meeting was coming upon Aug.18 to discuss future course of education, he informed. Prime Minister M.Singh was impressed by state’s educational performance and progress, and had assured all support for its initiatives.
Manipal University chancellor Dr.T.Ramdas M.Pai presided. Shantharam Kamath welcomed the gathering. Prof.B.Padmanabha Gowda made the introductory remarks. Prof.Y.Panduranga Nayak thanked. B.Ganapathy Pai, engineer Sujay Kumar Shetty, and Dr.Ramdas M.Pai were feted on the occasion.
Donor B.Ganapathy Pai promised full support as private sector industrialist, to the Bhuvanendra College. Dr.A.Krishna Rao, chief of MAGE, was present to lay the foundation stone for a hostel extension at Karkala on Aug.11.
