Mangalore : A women along with her son, tried to commit suicide by jumping into river Nandini near Haleangady was rescued by locals; unfortunately they could not save her son.
The woman has been identified as Geetha, wife of Divakar Jois, hailing from Udupi district had jumped into river with her 42-month-old son, Dheeraj.
The locals who saw her jumping into river immediately rescued her and admitted to a private hospital in Mukka and now she is out of danger.
Geetha said that she was facing harassment in her house and when the harassment continued on the day of harvest festival too, she decided to end her life with children but her elder son, Deepak (9) refused to accompany her.
However Rajesh, Praveen, Anish and Sunil, residents of Pavanje village and members of local organization, ‘Om Friends’, and Haleangady gram panchayat member, Soorya Kanchan, jumped into the river rescued her but little Dheeraj’s body was found near Arand.
A case has been registered in Mulky police station.
