Udupi: A motorist was killed after a car driven by a drunken student rammed into a scooter at Uppoor in the district on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Appu Bangera (57), owner of DR Bakery at Kolalgiri. It is said that the accident took place when he was returning home from the bakery. The intensity of the accident was such that the scooter was thrown away and Bangera succumbed at the spot.

It is said that three other students in the car were also drunk. The car overturned due to the accident but the occupants escape uninjured.

Sources say that the students were from Manipal.
