Mangalore : The DK Zilla Panchayath Women’s and Child Welfare department, Mangalore, District Legal Service Authority, Mangalore, District Women’s Federation Union in association with Karnataka State Women’s Commission, Bangalore organized the International World Women’s Day at Town Hall on March 8, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, MP Nalin Kuma Kateel said that India is a country where women’s are not only given importance but are respected and worshipped too.
He also said that even during the history, women were not given freedom, but now at the present century they gain the importance. At present women stand neck to neck with men. The Bhagyalakshmi scheme given by CM B S Yeddyurappa has encouraged the women.
The women must not be limited to fight for the right and freedom, but also must work to preserve the culture and tradition of the country and pass on to the generation, he added.
Navyashree Mahila Mandala, Puttur received the best Mandala award and President of the Mandala Premalatha Rao was felicitated on the occasion.
Dr Rathi Devi, professor, KMC, said that today women even though educated in every way she gives importance to the family first and later to herself.
Women must try to maintain their health along with maintaining the household and other works, she added.
The books like ‘Nisargadatta Ahara’, by Vidya Nayak was released by K T Shailaja Bhat, president of ZP, while the book ‘Vaidyakiya Garbha Paathadha Nuthana Guligegala Sadhaka- Badhakagalu’, by Dr Rathi Devi was released by Shakunthala A, Deputy Director, Women and Child Welfare Development.
The hand made items like bags, eatables, pickles and other things made by self help groups were displayed on the occasion inaugurated by K T Shailaja Bhat.
Dhanalakshmi Janardhana D, vice president of DK Zilla Pachayath was present on the occasion.
