Mangalore : The following suggestions were made by the Mangalore MP, Nalin Kumar Kateelu to the local Railway authorities, after an inspection of the current state of affairs at the Mangalore Railway Terminal, on 28-6-2010.
1.There is disorder at the current booking counter as tickets are not sold in all counters opened for the purpose, thus causing great deal of inconvenience to the traveling public. The Railways should employ Kannada knowing staff at the sales counters to obtain proper information and tickets quickly. At the information centre, a clerk knowing Kannada should be employed. Tickets should be issued at all counters. More staff knowing local languages should be brought in for public contacts.
2. At the Reservation booking counter, there is no one to attend phone calls specifically, and the same person who sells tickets also answers calls. This double work delays both issue of tickets to the waiting public for long periods and information supply. A separate counter to relay information with a Kannada knowing person at the desk is needed.
3.There is no “Platform ticket” vending machine at the Mangalore Central Terminal station people are made to stand for hours to buy the platform tickets in a queue. A separate counter should be installed only to issue platform tickets.
4. The time – table prepared for Mangalore to Subrahmanya Road stations is useful for travelers. The timings should be changed only to suit the daily travelers accordingly.
These suggestions were provided to senior officers and they have responded by saying that they will implemented whatever is in their power and forward the others to higher authorities for suitable action at higher levels, it was stated.
