Mangalore: A state govt, official was caught red handed when a job seeker in MRPL was offering him a bribe today, in front of a Lokyukta team, led by Sadananda Vernekar, Dy SP. The team arrested S.D Basavaraj, an officer from HRD Centre in MCC. The officer had demanded Rs.6, 000 to provide a job to Balram from Suratkal. MRPL had invited applications through HRD Centre.

Basavaraj cheated Balram, when the closing date was Aug 16 and Balram’s application given well within the date, was registered only on Sept. 1. The bribe was demanded on Sept.6. Basavaraj was caught while taking Rs.1000, as tutored by Lokayukta office to Balram. The voice recorder did the trick of putting Basavaraj in, during discussions. Basavaraj was produced in a court today.
