Mangaluru : The MRPL road, between Surathkal and Ganeshapura, will be developed as six-lane concrete road at an estimated cost of Rs 58 crore, according to B.A. Mohiuddin Bava, MLA, Mangaluru City North.
Speaking at a function organised to lay the foundation stone for upgrading the main road inside Baikampady Industrial Area as concrete road on Friday, the MLA said that the blueprint for widening about 4.5 km stretch of the road is being prepared.
He said that there was a need to upgrade this stretch owing to plying of heavy vehicles. The MLA said that the stretch between Malavoor bridge and Kenjar entry to Mangaluru International Airport on Mangaluru-Bajpe Road will be widened and concreted at an estimated Rs 52 crore.
It involves construction of a parallel bridge across the Phalguni at Malavoor.
He said that the government would build a market complex in Surathkal at an estimated ₹50 crore.
The government has sanctioned the funds for this project. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for it shortly.
The MLA said a breakwater would be constructed near Meenakaliya to prevent sea erosion at a cost of ₹8 crore.
The foundation stone laid in the industrial area on Friday was to widen and upgrade 3.39 km stretch of the main road inside the industrial area as concrete road at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore. As per the terms of contract its work should get over by July 4, 2018.
The MLA said that the roads inside the industrial area would also be developed.
Purushottama Chitrapura, councillor, Baikampady ward, asked civil society people to monitor the quality of the ₹12 crore work being taken up in the industrial area.
He said that the concrete road being laid should long last considering the fact that about 13,000 vehicles used the main road daily. Hence, people of the area should constantly monitor the quality during the phase of work.
