Mangalore: The meeting expected between residents of Melukoppala, Athrebailu, and Kuloor on the one hand, and Dr. Rajiv Banga, MD of MSEZ on the other as promised by legal adviser for MSEZ and certain police officers to end the picketing at MSEZ office on May 2 (Wednesday) did not happen at 5 Pm next day (Thursday) as officers of MSEZ failed to turn up, and Dr. Rajiv Banga went missing.
The angry and disappointed people again went to picket the MSEZ office situated on 4th floor of MUDA building, but found that it was closed, and they were fooled by MSEZ authorities.
Later, they stormed in groups into the office of DK-DC, Dr. N.S .Channappa Gowda, and demanded that he should resign for his silence on the burning issue and for his vicarious support to MSEZ tactics.
The furious locals (50 to 60) of 3 villages burnt an effigy of Dr. Rajiv Banga, MD-MSEZ, for not removing the heaps of mud dumped by MSEZ workers into river Falguni, thereby raising the risk of a flash flood in monsoon, in their residential areas.
