Mangalore: Local residents at Mukka, objecting to a swage pipeline being laid by MSEZ workers there, blocked the barge at mid-sea on Monday to stop its work that could kill hundreds of fish.
The barge was asked to go back to Maharashtra to bring valid documents. An earlier barge brought here few months ago, sank to the bottom and no effort was made to bring it up from depths of the sea. The dredging company worked negligently then and now. This matter had been brought to the attention of DK district administration by a memorandum submitted earlier.
Responding, the Mangalore Tahsildar on November 5 ordered the MSEZ Company to stop the pipeline work instantly. But the residents found to their utter disbelief that MSEZ remained committed to the pipeline project to dredge the sea. The Suratkal police are now attending to a Mukka complaint against MSEZ atrocity.
