Mangalore: There is an age-old edict that says if you cannot help someone, do not spoil him. But MSEZ here in DK believes in the opposite.
It is a devil to many, grabbing land, not paying compensation, spoiling the atmosphere, producing things for exports only to help themselves by enrichment, and casting a wicked eye everywhere. MSEZ has been criticised at various levels but never learnt its lessons like MRPL.
People of Melakoppal and Athrebayalu near Kulur seething in anger, stopped MSEZ workers dumping mud in large quantities into Phalguni river on Friday morning along a 1.4km, stretch to widen a road from Kulur KIOCL, to Jokatte Railway Gate road that runs along river banks.
The local residents did not leave the place for a long time, to see that workers did not return to dump mud again under orders.
The level of river water had risen by 3 feet ever since MSEZ workers dumped mud into the river. They wanted to stop work at 8-30AM on April 13, but work continued till 10AM creating fears of artificial, flooding in the riverside locality. The CRZ had given a notice to MSEZ officials, not to dump mud, but MSEZ authorities ignored the reminder of April 5, till April 13 at 10AM, when local forces moved in to prevent mud dumps.
MSEZ wanted time till May 25 and then it would remove the mud from the river, itself in deluge by then. Down with MSEZ.
