Mangaluru: Mangaluru Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) will give Rs 1 crore as compensation to the non-mechanised boat fishermen of Baikampady area.
In a meeting held by MLA Mohiuddhin Bava and Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim with fishermen and MSEZ officials at DC Office on Saturday, it is decided to give the compensation money to the fishermen. As the non-mechanised boat fishermen were alleging that, because of the chemical waste produced from MSEZ which is dumped in the sea, the profit in the fishing has been decreased drastically and the fishermen were urging for the compensation money since a long time.
MSEZ had deposited Rs 1 crore to the joint account of Assistant Commissioners account, but it wasn’t distributed yet due to some technical reasons. So, MLA Bava had instructed the DC to look into the matter and to disperse the money to the needy.
Bava intervene into the matter to solve the problem which was stuck since past three years. Now, the money will be returned to the MSEZ account and MSEZ will directly distribute the money to the fishermen. So, more than 1500 fishermen will take the benefit of it.
Order of the above decision was handed over to the MSEZ officials during the meeting itself.
DC A B Ibrahim, Mangaluru AC Dr Ashok, MSEZ officials and others were present in the meeting.
