Udupi: Lions Club of Shirva for the first time in town’s history, organised sports on GP level and the events were held on November 7, in muddy watered fields (Kesaru Gadde).One cannot wear whites or laundered suits there. The venue was Nyarma Hosamane field, where people went in procession from local bus stand.
Melwyn Aranha welcomed the gathering of 2,500. Suresh Prabhu was chief guest. Madhusudan Hegde inaugurated the events in Tulu fashion, with Pingara shoots(areca flower) in a rice pot. This was followed by Kambala, or buffalo race in the true rural spirit.
Udupi ZP chief K. Shankar Poojary and several other dignitaries from Lions and Panchayats were present. Games like Tug of war, throw ball, city bomb, 3 legged race, searching in mud field, were gone through. For lunch, Conjee with pickles and chutney was served. Prizes were distributed at 5-30 PM by HN Shivakumar. Wilson D’Souza proposed a vote of thanks.
