Mangaluru : The District 2nd Additional Court has sentenced a man to 18 years and one month imprisonment in a case of murder attempt on a young woman by stabbing her. The court has also directed the convict to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim.
The man who has been convicted is Sushanth alias Shan (31), a resident of Derlakatte.
The incident had taken place on June 28, 2019 when Sushanth had followed the girl and had accosted her near Shantidhama and had mercilessly stabbed her multiple times. He had later tried to end his life by cutting his wrist.
The KS Hegde Hospital staff rushed to the spot and one of the nurses managed to prevent the man from further stabbing the girl.
It is learnt the accused who was a dance instructor was a friend of the girl and was pestering her to marry him. A complaint was lodged following which he was arrested and subsequently released on bail. Later out of hatred he tried to kill her. The incident was caught on CCTV camera of KS Hegde Hospital. The CCTV footage proved to be the main evidence in the case.
