Bangalore : The Bharatiya Janata Party urged the government to withdraw murder case imposed against an Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) constable, who had opened fire at Kabeer near Sringeri.
Speaking at a press meet held on April 26, Saturday, BJP State general secretary C T Ravi said that there is no point in imposing ANF constable Naveen Naik with murder charges, since it was a accidental case and it is also true that Kabeer, who was killed was not an innocent.
The government is demoralizing the police force by taking such a decision against them. Coming under the pressure from SDPI and Komu Souharda Vedike, government has enhanced the compensation paid to Kabeer’s family from Rs five lakh to Rs 10 lakh, which was not at all necessary. It was the mistake of Kabeer and his team who started to run as soon as they saw the ANF personnel stopping them at check post, while on their duty, he said.
Government’s haste decision will further weaken the ANF police from taking any risk in future and will not dare to open fire at any real Maoists and this will help their cadre to strengthen in the district, informed Ravi.
