Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district Muslim Associations’ Union on Friday, May 22, staged a protest against Mangalore One School to apologize in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a three-year-old student by the school vehicle driver.
The Association offered two options for the school to ‘accept its guilt’ or to shut down.
Speaking at the protest, president of the Union and former Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor K Ashraf said that the Union has been seeking justice with the MLAs, ministers and the police since two months and that they have received success partly with Police Commissioner S Murugan and DC A B Ibrahim constituting a team for an honest probe into the case.
However, he said that neither did any of the political leaders visited the house of the victim to offer help, nor did the school serve an apology.
He said that there was still time for the school to come forward and apologize for the having tried to push the matter under the carpet.
Another speaker Rafiyuddin Kudrolli complained that one of the ministers who is also an MLA, is acting helpless as he is worried of losing on his votes. In wake of all these circumstances, he said that the Union’s sole agenda was to shut the school.
The Union later submitted a memorandum to the government through the DC demanding probe into the case by retired magistrate, stringent action against those who reportedly leaked the medical report out to the public, cancellation of the school’s accreditation, compensation to the victim and a registration of case against the head of the institution.
Azeez Kudroli, Shafi Bellare, Mohammed Haneef, Mohammed Kunhi and others were present.
