Mangalore: Bakrid  or Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated by Muslim brethren across the district on October 26, Friday. Special prayers and Namaz were offered  by Muslims in various mosques. The main event was held at the Idgah mosque at Light House Hill in Mangalore where a large number of devotees attended. Bakrid is a festival of sacrifice revealing that Allah was always there to protect his true devotees.

The festival is observed on the tenth day of the month Dhu’l Hijja, according to the Islamic calendar. According to the Islamic faith, expression of sacrifice is just symbolic, but the spirit of sacrifice is regarded more important.
