Mangaluru: “Polygamy in Islam was introduced to allow widows to get remarried and triple talaq was commenced later. Uniform Civil Code will bring equality among all the religions and it helps to enjoy the same privileges also,” said Faraz Faiz, advocate who approached Supreme Court seeking abolition of triple talaq.
She was speaking at a seminar on ‘Uniform Civil Code for National Unity’ held at Sangha Niketan on Saturday.
“During the British ruling many changes had been made to religious laws. Initially Hindu woman didn’t have right in property and subsequently she got the right. But no such amendment has been done in Shariyat law. It is the woman’s who will be most benefitted by the Uniform Civil Code,” she said.
Founder of Yuva Brigade Chakravarthy Sulibele said that equality among religions can be brought only through uniform civil code. It will also help to eradicate the root of fundamentalism in India.
“Small amount of inconvenience can be happen to some religions, but the changes will confirm the better future of many people. In Hindu and Christian religion men and women are living with same rights. Only in Islam men are dominating woman. Even Muslims also should accept the UCC so that Muslim women also can be equal to men,” he added.
