Mangalore : The celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, marked an end to the holy month on September 10, Friday. The celebrations began early in the morning with thousands of Muslims gathering at mosques and Eidgahs,.
Muslim brothers gathered at a large number at the Eidgah Masjid on Light House Hill Road which attracted many people. The religious ceremony was performed under the guidance of Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the Qazi of Mangalore, at 8:00 a.m. and the members of the Zeenath Baksh Masjid Committee supervised the arrangements.
People in new clothes greeted each other and exchanged gifts on the occasion. Special sweet dishes such as ‘sewayian’, made of vermicelli, were also offered.
The celebration of festival marks the end of Ramzan, with a month of fasting, and the beginning of a new month called Shawwal. On Eid, Muslims break their fast with prayer and prepare a wide range of delicious sweets and dishes, which they distribute among friends and family members.
