Bengaluru : Controversial Kannada film actor Mythriya Gowda has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the city court. Her sister and two relatives have been sentenced to one year imprisonment for assaulting a traffic policeman over a trivial row in Basaveshwaranagar in 2011.
Ms. Gowda was driving the car. Her sister Supriya and two relatives — Roopa and Rekha — were in the car with her. She was caught by head constable Shivakumar for talking on the phone while driving. A heated argument ensued between Ms. Gowda and Mr. Shivakumar. It took an ugly turn and the four women assaulted Mr. Shivakumar.
Following a complaint, the Basaveshwaranagar police had booked them for assaulting a government servant, along with other charges. They then submitted the charge sheet to the fifth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
On Friday, the court convicted the four women. However, they obtained bail and are likely to appeal the order in a higher court.
