Mangalore: Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade of Sri Dharamasthala Kshetra, has been named as one of the five winners of “Nadoja” award for 2010 by Hampi Varsity.
The prestigious Kannada University will confer the honorary degree on 5 eminent persons during the 19th “Nada Habba” (Festival of the land) convocation due on Dec.21 this year.
Well known Research scholar and educationist Dr. M.M Kalburgi, Dalit writer Baraguru Ramchandrappa, Film Singer P.B Srinivas and stage artiste Harijana Padmamma are the proposed recipients of this award, said Vice Chancellor of A. Murigeppa. The awardees have contributed to Kannada language, culture and traditional values, Prof. Murigeppa stated.
About Padmamma, he informed that she was a Bayalata player from Bellary taluk. She put on many forms of roles since 15, in the last 45 years in theatre and folk arts.
The others are acknowledged leaders in their filed of activity, the Hampi University release stated.
